The Playground Meets: Rob Moss
By: Brianna Nestor
Rob Moss is an artist whose talent exceeds the boundaries of any genre or societal norms. The Detroit native has a strong work ethic and a growing discography that coincides with his timely life experiences. His talents began to garner attention when he attended the Detroit High School for Performing Arts, and since then, he has been tirelessly working on his art. As a self-proclaimed perfectionist, Rob only releases the best of the best.
The “Tuff” singer’s latest release, Project X, is a full-length album with an overall up-tempo sound that bleeds confidence. As an independent artist, Rob’s album peaked #2 on iTunes R&B Charts and #81 on the iTunes Top 200 albums, with no promotion. This project displays how his music continuously evolves and the multi-faceted artist tells The Playground, “[With Project X] I’ve become a lot more polished in some areas, and a lot more bold and confident in other areas. I've grown into myself, grown into accepting my flaws, and I think all of that is reflective in the music. There’s no fear in the music.” So far, he has released two singles from the project, “Talk 2 Me” and “Who Up.” While his past music has focused on what he’s struggled with and gone through, Project X shows the results of his healing through a variety of different genres.
Not only does he carefully curate his sound, but also prioritizes building his overall brand, which is important in today’s social media realm. “Fashion represents who I am without me saying anything,” says Rob. In true artist form, Rob is always stunting no matter what time of day or location. His style evolution is also apparent in the design pieces of Project X. The sophisticated, modern cover art showcases a rebirth of himself and ties the album together as a full concept.
Dancing also plays a crucial role in sharing his journey with the world. In his latest video for his second single “Who Up”, Rob is accompanied by back up dancers. The artist choreographed and practiced alongside the dancers take after take until it was perfect. In all aspects of his work, he is completely hands-on and attentive to every single detail. “Who Up” was produced by Stacy P and Ted Park, and the video was shot by Ant Artefakt. Other videos such as “No Sleep” and “Good Good Good Love” also showcase his unique choreography.
When it comes to Rob Moss, no medium of creative expression goes unnoticed. He is constantly changing the game with his expertise and passion. No matter what, he always aspires to come out being better than he was before. Moving forward, listeners should always expect the unexpected from this limitless artist. Wherever he may be, Rob Moss is shining through with his authenticity.
